Amazon Nova Lite

Amazon Nova Lite arrived on 5 December 2024 at AWS re:Invent, in the same announcement as Pro and Micro. It is the model that carries the family's actual argument. Lite takes text, images, video and documents in and returns text, with the same 300,000-token context window as the far more expensive Nova Pro and the same 10,000-token output ceiling — at roughly a thirteenth of Pro's input price. For the common industrial jobs of reading a document, describing a frame or summarising a call, the cheaper model was rarely the weaker choice. It is a full Bedrock citizen rather than a stripped-down tier: fine-tuning, provisioned throughput, batch inference, Agents, Knowledge Bases, Guardrails and Evaluations all work, and Lite is a distillation student of both Premier and Pro, meaning teams could train a small model on a big one's behaviour and then serve it at Lite prices. It runs in-region in Northern Virginia, Tokyo, Sydney, London and GovCloud, and reaches most of the US, European and Asian AWS geographies through cross-region inference. Amazon quotes support for over 200 languages, with optimisation for fifteen. Its standing today is worth stating plainly, because much of the first Nova generation is being wound down. Nova Premier, Sonic, Canvas and Reel all carry September 2026 retirement dates in Amazon's Bedrock lifecycle table. Lite does not appear on that list at all: as of August 2026 it is Active, with no legacy date and no end-of-life date announced. Together with Micro and Pro it is what remains of the original December 2024 line-up in ordinary service.
