Amazon Nova Pro

Amazon Nova Pro launched on 5 December 2024 as the middle-upper rung of the first Nova family, announced at re:Invent alongside Lite and Micro. It is a balanced multimodal model: text, images and video in, text out, a 300,000-token context window and — per Amazon's Bedrock model card — up to 5,000 output tokens, a limit worth noting because Amazon's own Nova user guide quotes 10K for the same model. Knowledge cutoff is October 2024. It speaks 200-plus languages and is optimised for fifteen. Unlike Nova Premier, which existed to teach other models, Pro was built to be deployed and modified. It supports fine-tuning, provisioned throughput, Bedrock Agents and Knowledge Bases, intelligent prompt routing, prompt caching and Guardrails. It is also by far the most widely available Nova, running in-region in Northern Virginia, London, Sydney, Jakarta, the UAE and GovCloud, and reachable across the US and EU geographies — including Frankfurt, Stockholm, Ireland, Milan, Spain, Paris and Tel Aviv — through cross-region inference. For a European team with data-residency requirements, Pro was for a long time the only Amazon model that fit. Its lifecycle line is the interesting part. Amazon's model card still lists it as Active, but the end-of-life field reads 'no sooner than 4 December 2025' — a guaranteed-availability floor that has already passed. In Amazon's scheme that means the model keeps running with no committed horizon, and can be given a retirement date at any point, as Nova Premier, Sonic, Canvas and Reel already have for September 2026. Pro has no announced shutdown date; it simply no longer has a promise either.
