Cohere Labs' 32-billion-parameter multilingual model for 23 languages with a 128K-token window - the only Aya Expanse variant the company also rents through its own API.
Aya Expanse 32B is the larger of the two models Cohere Labs released on 24 October 2024, and the one the company took beyond a research artefact: it is listed in Cohere's production documentation as c4ai-aya-expanse-32b, with a 128,000-token context window and a 4,000-token output limit. Its 32,296,476,672 parameters serve the same 23 languages as the 8B model, Polish among them, and the same post-training recipe of data arbitrage, preference training and checkpoint merging. The unusual thing about this release is the gap between the two channels. Renting the model through Cohere's API places it under a commercial agreement; downloading the identical weights places it under CC BY-NC 4.0 and the lab's acceptable use policy, which grants research use only. The repository is gated in the same way as the rest of the family - an account and acceptance of the terms precede the download. Two years on the weights remain in steady use, with 11,595 downloads in the thirty days to 18 August 2026 and 300 likes, and the model is the reference point Cohere itself uses when describing multilingual quality in the Aya line.
