Doubao Seed 2.1 Pro

Doubao Seed 2.1 Pro is the flagship of the model family ByteDance presented on 23 June 2026 at its Volcano Engine FORCE conference, alongside a cheaper sibling, Seed 2.1 Turbo. It is the engine of Doubao, the consumer assistant that has made ByteDance one of the most heavily used model providers in China — a position built less on benchmark leadership than on distribution and price. ByteDance frames the generation around three upgrades over Seed 2.0: coding delivered as engineering rather than snippets, agents that survive long chains of steps, and multimodal understanding. The company reports 87.9 on GDPVal, a test of real office work, 50.3 on ProgramBench and 47.0 on NL2Repo-Bench for repository-scale code generation, 92.6 on MathVision and 73.7 on BabyVision for visual reasoning, and 89.2 on VideoMME with 79.5 on TOMATO for motion perception. The video figures matter because Seed 2.1 accepts video up to an hour long, which is unusual outside the very top of the market. The commercial argument is sharper than the technical one. On Volcano Engine the Pro model is listed at 6 yuan per million input tokens and 30 yuan per million output tokens — roughly 0.83 and 4.14 US dollars — with Turbo at half that. Coverage of the launch put Seed 2.1 Pro ahead of Claude Opus 4.6 on several coding, agent and multimodal benchmarks at a total cost of ownership around 80% lower; the benchmark claims are ByteDance's own, but the price list is public and it is the part competitors have to answer. The weights are closed. Access is through the Volcano Engine API and ByteDance's Coze agent platform, and the same family sits behind the Doubao consumer app. ByteDance publishes a model card as a PDF rather than as living documentation, which makes independent verification of the specification harder than it is for its Chinese rivals with open weights.
