Eleven Multilingual v2

Eleven Multilingual v2 is the model that established ElevenLabs as the reference point in synthetic speech. Released in 2023, it was the first of the company's models to carry a cloned voice convincingly across languages — the same speaker reading Polish, Spanish or Japanese without turning into a different person — and that single property is what pulled dubbing and audiobook production towards AI voices. It covers 29 languages and accepts up to 10,000 characters per request, a limit shaped by long-form work rather than conversation. Years after its release it remains in the catalogue instead of being retired, because it occupies a specific niche: the newer flagship trades some stability for expressive range, and the Flash line trades quality for speed, while Multilingual v2 stays deliberately even-tempered. ElevenLabs describes it as its most life-like and emotionally rich model for voiceovers, audiobooks and content creation, priced at roughly twice the rate of the low-latency models.
