The only system in this branch that ships from the truck maker's assembly line: L3 in serial production since 2021, with the driver still in the cab and 500 million commercial kilometres behind it.
Inceptio Technology, founded in 2018 and based in Shanghai, sells a full-stack autonomous driving system called T-NOA for heavy line-haul trucks. It belongs in this catalogue next to Aurora, Kodiak, Torc, Plus, Waabi and Bot Auto, but it does not share their goal. Every American company in this branch is trying to take the person out of the cab; Inceptio never was. T-NOA is an SAE Level 3 system, the driver stays behind the wheel, and the company treats that as the product rather than as a stage on the way to something else. The consequence is a different kind of scale. Inceptio states it achieved the industry's first serial production of L3 autonomous trucks, with vehicles leaving the assembly line since late 2021 — not retrofitted afterwards, but built with the system fitted, on models such as Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle's Hi-Truck Tianlong Autonomous GX and KX series, and in partnership with Sinotruk. By April 2024 the fleet had covered 100 million commercial kilometres; that figure doubled to 200 million with more than 2,000 trucks in service, and the company now states 500 million kilometres in commercialisation. No other system in this branch reports commercial distance in those units. Aurora, the largest of the American programmes, passed 440,000 driverless miles by mid-2026. Because there is no driver to remove, the business case has to be made on operating cost, and Inceptio publishes it in a form the rest of the branch does not. The company reports a 3 to 7 percent improvement in fuel efficiency, estimated at about 6,000 litres of diesel and 15.8 tonnes of carbon dioxide saved per truck per year, and a 20 to 50 percent reduction in labour cost — the latter because a Level 3 truck can be run by a single driver on routes that would otherwise need a team. It also went to an insurer for evidence rather than publishing its own safety claim: a joint study with the Chinese insurance group CPIC put Inceptio-equipped trucks between 75 and 99 percent better than human-operated trucks across the safety indicators examined. That is a company-commissioned study, not a regulator's finding, but it is a great deal more than a mileage total. The roadmap does point at driverless operation eventually, and the hardware is moving that way: the company announced mass production of Taurus, its next-generation autonomous driving control unit, on 17 June 2026, and received ASPICE CL2 process certification in April 2026 — an automotive software-quality standard that matters precisely because the product ships on a production line. Founder and chief executive Julian Ma frames the mileage as proof of transformation in logistics. The honest reading is narrower and more interesting: Inceptio has shown that an autonomous trucking company can reach industrial scale without ever winning the argument the American companies are still having.
