Kimi K3, released by Moonshot AI on July 16, 2026 with weights open-sourced under a modified MIT license on July 27, is a 2.8-trillion-parameter mixture-of-experts model activating 104B params (16 of 896 experts) per token. With a 1M-token context window and native image/video understanding, it topped Arena's Frontend Code evaluation ahead of Claude Fable 5, cementing open-weight China-built models at the very top of the frontier race. It succeeds the original Kimi K2 (2025) via the K2 Thinking, K2.5, K2.6 and K2.7-Code line.
