MiniMax M2.7 was released on 18 March 2026, with the weights following on Hugging Face on 9 April. It is the last model built on the M2 body — 62 layers, 256 experts, 8 routed per token, 228,689,764,864 parameters, the same count as M2 and M2.1 — but it is the first the company describes as having taken part in its own development. During training, an internal version of M2.7 was left to optimise a programming scaffold on its own across more than a hundred rounds: reading failed runs, editing the code, running evaluations, and deciding for itself whether to keep the change or revert it. MiniMax puts the result of that loop at a 30% improvement. The benchmark set is broader than a coding suite. On SWE-Pro it scores 56.22%, on SWE Multilingual 76.5 and on Multi-SWE-Bench 52.7; Terminal-Bench 2 comes in at 57.0% and NL2Repo at 39.8%. On MLE Bench Lite, twenty-two machine-learning competitions run end to end, it took a medal in 66.6% of them. On GDPval-AA, which scores economically valuable office work rather than code, it reached an ELO of 1495 — the highest among open-weight models by the company's account. The context window also grew for the first time in the line, from 196,608 to 204,800 tokens. The licence is where readers should slow down. M2 and M2.1 were MIT; M2.5 moved to MiniMax's own model licence; M2.7 is published under a Non-Commercial License. Personal use, self-hosted deployment, research and experimentation are explicitly free. Any commercial use — selling a product or service built on it, running it behind a paid API, deploying a fine-tuned derivative for commercial purposes — requires prior written authorisation from MiniMax, requested by e-mail. Commercial users who do obtain it must display "Built with MiniMax M2.7" prominently. The successor, M3, returned to a community licence that permits commercial use with attribution, which makes M2.7 a one-off closure in the middle of an otherwise open line. Despite that, it is the most downloaded text model the company has: roughly 909,000 pulls from Hugging Face in the last thirty days, ahead of M2.5 and more than four times M3.
