Robostral Navigate

Robostral Navigate, announced on 8 July 2026, is the French lab's first step out of language models and into physical machines. It takes two inputs — a stream from a single RGB camera and an instruction written the way a person would say it — and outputs the movement commands that carry a robot to the destination. There is no prior map of the building, no LiDAR, no depth camera and no stereo rig. On a fleet of delivery robots or inspection quadrupeds, that removes the most expensive sensor from the bill of materials. The model has 8 billion parameters, which for an embodied system is small on purpose: Mistral positions it to run on the robot itself rather than on a server the robot has to stay connected to. Training was done entirely in simulation — roughly 2.4 million trajectories across 350,000 synthetic scenes — and the lab reports that the resulting behaviour transfers to obstacles the model never saw during training. The same weights are meant to drive wheeled, legged and flying platforms, so the model is sold as hardware-agnostic rather than tied to one chassis. On R2R-CE, the standard benchmark for following route instructions in continuous environments, Mistral reports a 76.6% success rate in buildings the model has never seen and 79.4% in ones it has. The lab puts that at 9.7 points above other single-camera approaches and 4.5 points above systems that use several sensors at once — the second figure being the interesting one, since beating a multi-sensor stack with one camera is what makes the cost argument work. What Mistral has not published is as notable as what it has. There is no price list, no public API endpoint and no model card on Hugging Face; the company's own page routes interested parties to a sales conversation. The licence has not been disclosed either, which for a lab whose reputation rests on Apache-2.0 releases leaves an open question about whether this line will be open at all. Until that is answered, Robostral Navigate should be read as a commercial product for industrial fleet operators, not as something a hobbyist can download.
