The ChatGPT snapshot that raised the price of the chat line by 40 percent and lasted eight months.
gpt-5.2-chat-latest was the ChatGPT snapshot of GPT-5.2, released with the model on 11 December 2025. It broke the price line the two earlier chat snapshots had held: USD 1.75 per million input tokens and USD 14 per million output, against USD 1.25 and USD 10 before it — a 40 percent rise on both counts, matching the increase applied to API GPT-5.2 itself. What buyers got for it was newer knowledge rather than more room. The window stayed at 128,000 tokens and the output ceiling at 16,384, but the knowledge cutoff moved forward eleven months, from 30 September 2024 to 31 August 2025 — the first refresh of the chat line since GPT-5. OpenAI announced its deprecation on 8 May 2026, five months after release, and shut it down on 10 August 2026 alongside gpt-5.3-chat-latest, naming GPT-5.6 Sol as the replacement. Counted from launch, it was available for eight months — a shorter run than either of the cheaper snapshots that preceded it.
