Plus, formerly PlusAI, was founded in 2016 in Santa Clara, California, and spent its early years on a driver-assist product for Chinese fleets before narrowing to a single question: who builds the driver that truckmakers will install themselves? SuperDrive is the answer — a Level 4 virtual driver sold to vehicle manufacturers rather than to freight carriers. The partner list is the company's real asset. TRATON GROUP selected SuperDrive as the on-highway autonomous platform for Scania, MAN and International; IVECO Group and Hyundai Motor Company are also partners, giving six truck brands across North America, Europe and Asia. That is a different bet from Aurora or Kodiak, which run their own trucks and sell miles: Plus takes no fleet risk and no freight revenue, and instead depends entirely on partners actually putting autonomous trucks down their production lines. The technical direction announced with SuperDrive 6.0 in March 2026 is a shift away from hand-written driving rules toward large neural-network models — the same generative-AI turn that reshaped passenger-car autonomy, applied to an 18-metre articulated vehicle whose stopping distance leaves far less room for a late decision. The most unusual thing about the programme is what it publishes. Plus reports a Safety Case Readiness figure — the share of its safety argument for driverless operation that it considers complete and evidenced. It stood at 90.1% at the end of 2025 and 93.4% in August 2026. No competitor discloses an equivalent number. It is a self-assessment, not an audit, and the last few points are the hardest; but a company willing to state publicly that it is not yet finished is making a claim that can be checked against it later. By August 2026 the company reports more than seven million autonomy miles and four ISO certifications obtained ahead of commercial launch. Scaled driverless operation with factory-built trucks is targeted for 2027 — the same year as Torc, Aurora's expansion and Waabi, which makes 2027 the year the whole sector has agreed to be judged on.
