Pony.ai, founded in 2016 and listed on Nasdaq and in Hong Kong, runs fully driverless commercial robotaxi services in China and abroad. Its seventh-generation system, in mass production since July 2025, is the technical core of the business: Pony.ai states the Gen-7 autonomous driving kit is the first built entirely from automotive-grade components, cutting bill-of-materials cost by 70 percent against the previous generation, using six sensor types for 360-degree redundant perception with a proprietary sensor-cleaning system, and rated for a 600,000 km service life. The kit is designed as a platform and is fitted to vehicles from BAIC, GAC and Toyota rather than to one bespoke chassis. What sets this profile apart from every other robotaxi entry in the catalogue is that Pony.ai put numbers on the question the whole industry avoids. On 2 March 2026 the company reported unit economics breakeven in Shenzhen for February: RMB 338 in average daily net revenue per Gen-7 vehicle at an average of 23 paid orders per vehicle per day, peaking at 26 during Chinese New Year, against a 2025 baseline of about 15 rides. Crucially, the company listed what the calculation covers — depreciation of the vehicle and the autonomous driving kit, charging, maintenance, remote operations, insurance, labour, parking and network infrastructure. Waymo, Zoox and Apollo Go publish ride counts and mileage; none of them publishes this. Scale is smaller than Baidu's but growing fast. As of 24 May 2026 Pony.ai had over 1,700 robotaxis deployed and raised its year-end target to more than 3,500 vehicles and over 20 cities worldwide. Robotaxi revenue reached 8.6 million USD in the first quarter of 2026, up 395.4 percent year over year, with fare revenue up 456.5 percent, inside total quarterly revenue of 34.3 million USD. The company reports a presence in nine countries with public services in four overseas markets, including the first commercial robotaxi service in Europe, in Croatia, plus Dubai, Qatar, Singapore and South Korea. Pony.ai expects total China vehicle cost, base car plus kit, to fall below RMB 230,000 by 2027 — a forecast, not an achieved figure.
