Pronto AHS

Pronto AHS is an autonomous haulage system for off-road heavy trucks, developed by Pronto.ai — the company founded by Anthony Levandowski, previously known for self-driving work at Google, Waymo and Uber. It is fitted to trucks a customer already owns, and it is deliberately indifferent to who made them. The headline claim is cost. Established autonomous haulage systems come from the truck makers themselves and rely on lidar; Pronto argues that dropping lidar cuts both price and fragility, and that its system can be deployed in weeks rather than years. One nuance is worth stating plainly: press material describes the system as camera-only, while the maker's own comparison table lists cameras, radar and GPS as the safety sensors and marks only lidar as absent. Cameras carry the perception load, but the machine is not blind in other bands. The strongest evidence is operational rather than promotional. At Heidelberg Materials' quarry in Lake Bridgeport, Texas, Pronto-equipped rigid-frame dump trucks from Caterpillar and Komatsu — a mixed fleet, which the company believes to be the first autonomous mixed fleet in production in North America — hauled more than two million tons of limestone over eight months, following a 2023 pilot at the nearby Bridgeport site. In February 2025 the two companies signed a global agreement to fit more than 100 trucks across a dozen-plus sites in North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific by 2028. The system scales down as well as up: Pronto sells it in tiers, from driver assistance through collision avoidance to full site autonomy, depending on how ready a site is. Two ownership changes sit behind the product. In July 2025 Pronto acquired its rival SafeAI, adding a multi-sensor premium tier and an ASIL D-certified safety framework; in April 2026 Pronto was itself acquired by the physical-AI company Atoms.
