Wassi

Wassi is a walking trainer from UBTech's healthcare unit, shown to the world on 31 August 2022 alongside four other elderly-care machines. Where a conventional walking frame waits for a nurse to fetch it, Wassi drives itself to the patient, follows a rehabilitation route and returns to its charger on its own. The machine measures 750 x 645 mm at the base and stands between 930 and 1430 mm depending on how far it is raised; its handles travel electrically between 660 and 930 mm, so it fits users of very different heights without a technician. It weighs 65 kg and its seat is rated for 100 kg — the second number matters, because a walking trainer that folds out a seat is also a chair a tired patient drops onto. Walking speed is adjustable from a standstill up to 0.8 m/s, and the chassis clears 15 mm obstacles, bridges 35 mm gaps and climbs 5-degree slopes, which describes a hospital corridor rather than a garden path. Safety and supervision are the point of the machine. Lidar, ultrasonic and infrared sensors, a 3D camera, a top-mounted RGB camera, an IMU, an optical sensor and a microphone array let it avoid obstacles, slow down and speak warnings. It monitors vital signs while the patient walks, and a single button calls for help; the seat opens and closes by itself. A touchscreen tilting through 0 to 130 degrees runs animated exercises with spoken instructions, and the robot builds a personal exercise library from each user's gait and limb mobility, then generates training reports that let a ward schedule both its patients and its machines. An infusion stand can be mounted on either handle. UBTech does not publish a price, a runtime or a charging time for Wassi. For a device that is supposed to run rehabilitation sessions back to back, the missing battery figures are the gap a buyer will notice first.
