Tacta sells "Dexterous Intelligence" as its breakthrough — its CEO says the model is off-the-shelf, and the hand has no published payload

Tacta Systems came out of stealth on 27 July 2026 with TactaBot — a package of three parts: the Tacta Hand, a data-collection glove called Skill Capture, and an AI model the company calls Dexterous Intelligence. The press release leads with the model. It is the only one of the three components given a capitalised, branded name in the headline, and the phrase "powered by Dexterous Intelligence" sits in the title of the announcement itself. It is also the only one of the three that Tacta did not build. Asked how the model works, chief executive Vikram Pavate described an off-the-shelf, pre-trained AI model fine-tuned on the company's tactile and motion-capture data. That is a reasonable engineering choice — most robotics companies shipping in 2027 will do the same — but it inverts the story the announcement tells. The proprietary work is in the sensor and the glove; the intelligence is bought in and tuned. The hardware numbers are more specific than the model's. The Tacta Hand has 15 independently actuated joints, three per finger, in three- and five-finger configurations, driven by what the company calls Fluidic Tendon actuation: cables carrying fluid that pushes pistons in the fingers, which keeps motors and their heat away from the fingertips. Tacta rates the hand at 30 million cycles and treats the fingertip sensors as replaceable consumables — a maintenance detail no coverage mentioned, and one that matters to any factory costing the thing out. The tactile sensors are MEMS devices on a 1 mm pitch, each with its own analog-to-digital converter, sampling 400 times a second. They read pressure from 250 to 700,000 pascals — a 2,800-fold span the company describes as the full dynamic range of human touch — and resolve temperature to a tenth of a degree Celsius. The Skill Capture glove carries 256 of them on each fingertip. One number is missing, and it is the one a manufacturer asks first. Tacta publishes 25 newtons per fingertip, about 2.5 kg, but no payload for the hand as a whole. Fingertip forces do not simply add up into a grip rating — geometry, friction and opposition all intervene — so the figure that would let a plant compare the Tacta Hand against the gripper already on its line has not been released. TactaBot ships in early 2027 to electronics, AI-infrastructure and automotive customers; Tacta has raised 75 million dollars from investors including SoftBank, Woven Capital and America's Frontier Fund.
