AgileX RANGER MINI 3.0

AgileX Robotics · China · 2024

A 75 kg chassis whose four wheels each steer on their own motor — it can drive like a car, spin on the spot or crab sideways at 90 degrees, and it carries 120 kg while doing it.

RANGER MINI 3.0 solves the problem every wheeled robot runs into: differential chassis turn tightly but scrub their tyres and waste energy on hard surfaces, while Ackermann chassis roll efficiently but need room to turn. AgileX's answer is to give each of the four wheels its own 100 W steering motor alongside its own 350 W drive motor, so the geometry itself is software-selectable. That yields three driving modes on one machine. In Ackermann mode — front and rear steering together — the minimum turning circle is 810 mm. In spin mode the wheels form a rosette and the turning radius drops to zero. In tilt mode all four wheels turn up to 90 degrees, letting the robot crab sideways without changing which way it faces. Parking locks the wheels in an X, which is a mechanical handbrake rather than an electronic one. The chassis is 720 × 500 × 345 mm and weighs 75 kg, with a rated payload of 120 kg — more than a machine of this size suggests. One number is worth reading carefully: AgileX quotes the 15-degree climbing figure at a 25 kg load, not at the rated 120 kg, so gradient performance and full payload are not available at the same time. Ground clearance is 105 mm and the robot crosses gaps up to 120 mm. Power comes from a 48 V 24 Ah lithium iron phosphate pack, good for seven hours and 35 km — well over twice the range of the SCOUT MINI — with a 1.5-hour recharge, the fastest in the range. Top speed is 7.2 km/h, that is 2 m/s. Sealing is IP54: better than the IP22 of the SCOUT and TRACER chassis, far short of the IP67 BUNKER PRO. As everywhere in this line, sensors, compute and navigation are the buyer's problem; control is CAN plus an optional 2.4 GHz transmitter.
