Techman TM12S

The TM12S is the model that makes Techman's headline claim checkable. The company advertises the S series as up to 70 percent better in repeatability than its earlier arms, and against this arm's own predecessor the arithmetic holds exactly: the TM12 of 2018 was quoted at plus/minus 0.1 mm, the TM12S is quoted at plus/minus 0.03 mm. Everything else is the same machine on paper — 12 kg of payload, 1300 mm of reach, 33 kg of mass against the older arm's 32.8. That is worth stating plainly, because the same claim does not hold everywhere in the series. Techman's own product pages give the two biggest arms, the TM25S and the TM30S, plus/minus 0.05 mm; the 70 percent figure describes the step from the 2018 medium-payload arms to their S-series replacements, not the whole family. On the TM12S it is the literal truth. Around the joints, the series adds what a 2018 arm did not have. Protection rises from IP54 to IP65, so the arm survives a washdown rather than a wipe. The sixth axis turns at 450 instead of 225 degrees per second, which Techman translates into a claimed 25 percent shorter cycle. The safety package covers up to 31 TUV-certified functions rated PL d, Cat 3 under ISO 13849-1, certified by SGS for UL and CSA and CE-marked as partly completed machinery — enough, the manufacturer says, that no additional safety PLC is needed. The vision system stays where Techman has always put it, inside the wrist, but the software behind it is now an AI stack: classification, object detection, semantic segmentation and anomaly detection, trained on the TM AI+ Training Server and used from the same TMflow environment as the motion program. The applications Techman lists — conveyor tracking, machine tending, welding, palletising, polishing — are the ordinary heavy work of a factory floor, and the arm's appeal is that it now does them to a tolerance that used to require a smaller, lighter machine.
