COBOTTA is the arm that opened DENSO WAVE's collaborative line, announced on 29 November 2017 and grown since into a family that includes the far larger COBOTTA PRO models. It was built out of the company's own factory problem: automating short, simple tasks in automotive component plants without calling in a robot integrator. Everything about it is scaled down. The whole machine weighs about 4 kg, which one person lifts and moves between benches, and the controller sits inside the base rather than in a separate cabinet, so a mains lead and an AC adapter are all it needs. Total arm length is 342.5 mm (165 + 177.5 mm) and rated payload is 500 g, rising to 700 g within 10 degrees of the wrist pointing down. Repeatability is +/-0.05 mm and joint speeds are deliberately modest — from 22.47 deg/s on the second axis to 63.56 deg/s on the sixth — with the factory setting completing a 200 x 25 mm reciprocating cycle in 4.32 seconds and 1.6 seconds at maximum speed. Programming is by direct teaching, with an optional camera for visual teaching. Two variants exist: a standard version running DENSO's own software, declared to ISO 10218-1:2011, ISO/TS 15066:2016 and ISO 13849-1:2023 PL d Cat. 3, and an OSS version shipped without software for customers who install Linux themselves and which carries only the ISO 13849-1 declaration. Protection is IP30 for the unit and IP20 for the adapter and cable, so this is an office- and laboratory-grade machine, not a shop-floor one; noise stays below 55 dB. DENSO also sells it as the core of a COBOTTA LAB laboratory automation cell.
