Dobot CR3AS

CR3AS is the smallest member of Dobot's CRS line - the CRA arms sold with the SafeSkin pre-collision layer fitted as standard rather than as an option. Mechanically it is the CR3A: 16.5 kg of machine carrying 3 kg within a 620 mm working radius and a 795 mm maximum reach, drawing 120 W, with +/-0.02 mm repeatability, IP54 protection and a 0 to 50 C working range. Joint travel is +/-360 degrees on every axis except J3 at +/-155 degrees; J1 and J2 run at 180 deg/s and the four remaining joints at 223 deg/s. SafeSkin is what the letter S buys. It is a capacitive layer that senses both proximity and contact, is recommended on joints J4, J5 and J6, detects at 5 to 15 cm depending on where it is mounted, samples every 0.01 s and triggers an emergency stop within 0.1 s. Dobot states the limitation openly: the skin reacts to human bodies, metals and liquids, and is less effective with non-conductive objects - so it complements, rather than replaces, the force-based collision detection of the arm itself. Two observations from the manufacturer's own data. First, Dobot publishes exactly the same mass for CR3AS as for CR3A, and never states what SafeSkin itself weighs - the figure is inherited from the base arm rather than measured for this version. Second, the maximum linear speed on this page is 2 m/s, while the CRA series comparison table gives 3 m/s for the same arm; this catalogue publishes the product page figure and records the discrepancy. The name has history. Until 2024 the same page address served a product called CR3S - the SafeSkin version of the older CR generation, with wrist joints limited to 180 deg/s and a working range ending at 45 C. Dobot reused the URL for the CRA-based version, so a link to the 2023 model now opens the 2024 one.
