CR5AF is the smallest of the three arms in Dobot's CRAF line, announced in 2025. The line is not a new mechanical platform: the manufacturer states plainly that the CRAF arms are built on the CRA series with a high-resolution six-axis force sensor integrated at the flange end. What the sensor buys is compliance - the ability to hold a set contact force against a surface, to feel the surface in the first place, and to be led by hand with almost no resistance. The headline figures are the small ones. Dobot gives a drag-start force below 2 N, low enough that the arm can be guided with a light touch, and quotes 0.1 mm point-to-point accuracy for teaching by hand. Collision detection through the force sensor is rated down to 1 N of sensitivity, while the structure is specified to withstand 2,000 N of impact. The whole flange is an active drag zone with a ring status light and a press-to-drag button, and the force channel does not occupy the tool-side RS485 or I/O ports, so an electric gripper or the VX500 smart camera can still be attached. Beyond hand guiding, the arm compensates automatically to keep force constant during grinding and polishing, and can scan a surface to detect variations such as a change in table height. One comparison is worth making explicitly, because the catalogue holds both arms. The three catalogue figures Dobot publishes for CR5AF - 5 kg payload, 900 mm working radius, +/-0.02 mm repeatability - are identical to those of the plain CR5A. Adding the sensor does not change what the manufacturer claims about geometry, and the 0.1 mm quoted for the CRAF line is a different quantity: it describes hand-guided point teaching, not repeatability. Dobot does not publish a separate mass, power draw or ingress rating for the CRAF variants on the series page; those figures are given here only for the CRA arm the line is based on.
