M1 Pro is the second generation of Dobot's SCARA line, succeeding the DOBOT M1 that the company crowdfunded from 999 dollars in 2017. Dating it takes care, because two different dates circulate. The product page was already live on Dobot's site in December 2021, and the company's own Lua and software manuals for the M1 Pro are dated June 2021 - so the arm was on sale before 2022. What happened in 2022 was the international debut: Dobot presented the M1 Pro at iREX in Tokyo on 9-12 March, and trade coverage from that show is where most secondary sources take their launch date. This catalogue publishes 2021, the year the manufacturer's own record shows the product existing, and records the show debut separately. The geometry is classic SCARA - two rotary joints in the horizontal plane, a vertical Z stroke and a rotating tool axis - within a small envelope. J1 covers +/-85 degrees, J2 +/-130 degrees, the Z axis travels from 5 to 245 mm, and the tool axis rotates freely. The two arm joints run at 180 deg/s, the Z axis at 1,000 mm/s and the tool axis at 1,000 deg/s. Payload is 1.5 kg within a 400 mm radius, with +/-0.02 mm repeatability - the same precision class as Dobot's six-axis CRA arms, and four times tighter than the desktop MG400. The collaborative argument rests on two things rather than a safety-rated controller. The forearm is 40% narrower than a conventional industrial SCARA, which reduces the chance and the force of an accidental knock, and the arm carries collision detection. Buyers should read that as a lighter safety story than the PLd Cat.3 safety controller and ISO/TS 15066 certification Dobot publishes for the CRA range; the M1 Pro page makes no such certification claim. Practically, the controller sits inside the arm, so there is no separate cabinet to wire - the machine runs from 100-240 V mains and weighs 15.7 kg. Connectivity covers TCP/IP, Modbus TCP and Modbus RTU, an encoder interface supports conveyor tracking and dynamic picking, and programming is by script or graphical editor from a PC, tablet or phone over wired or wireless links. Dobot does not publish a list price; the arm reaches customers through distributors and robotics marketplaces.
