The oldest machine still sold in the commercial Wave range — and the only one whose maker has quietly cut its recommended pool length from 120 feet to 82 over the years.
The Dolphin Wave 100 is a mains-powered commercial pool cleaner from Maytronics for apartment complexes, condominiums and mid-sized hotel pools. It is the veteran of the range: Maytronics does not date its product cards, but the machine appears with a model number and a full specification table in the Commercial Pro Line dealer brochure dated January 2012, alongside the Wave 50 and the Wave 300 XL, and Maytronics has been selling a commercial Dolphin Wave line in the United States since at least 2008. The catalogue records 2012 as the earliest documented year rather than an announced premiere. The current machine weighs 10.75 kg, runs on 30 metres of swivel cable from a caddy power supply and moves 17 cubic metres of water an hour. It cleans the floor, the walls and the waterline with two combined brushes, none of them actively driven, and filters into a bag loaded from underneath. There is no full-filter indicator, no enhanced cleaning cycle, no app and no weekly timer; the default cycle runs six hours and a remote control is supplied. Warranty is three years. Comparing the current card with the 2012 brochure shows a machine that has been quietly downgraded on paper. The 2012 Wave 100 was recommended for pools up to 120 feet, ran on 114 feet of cable and offered a choice of four, six or eight-hour cycles; today the same name is recommended for 25 metres — 82 feet — on 30 metres of cable with a single six-hour cycle. The water throughput is unchanged. Whether Maytronics rebuilt the machine or simply became more careful about what it promises, the catalogue records both figures and does not choose between them. The practical consequence for a buyer is that the Wave 100 is now outranked inside its own family. The cheaper Wave 80 covers 20-metre pools with an active brush, a top-loading fine filter, a full-filter indicator and a two-and-a-half-hour cycle — everything the 100 lacks. The larger number here buys five extra metres of pool and six extra metres of cable, and gives up the better cleaning hardware to get them.
