Dolphin Wave 140

The Dolphin Wave 140 is a mains-powered commercial pool cleaner from Maytronics, aimed at hotels, resorts and municipal facilities with pools up to 127 feet (about 39 metres). Like the rest of the American commercial range it never had a launch announcement: its year is bracketed from the maker's own site, which in January 2021 still listed only the Wave 100, 150, 200 XL and 300 XL, and by April 2021 had added the 60, 80, 120 and 140. The catalogue therefore records 2021 as the earliest documented year rather than an announced premiere. The machine weighs 55.1 lb (about 25 kg), runs on 140 feet of cable from a caddy power supply, moves 9,000 gallons of water an hour and carries six standard brushes over a top-access fine filter cartridge. It is controlled by a handheld remote; there is no mobile app, no weekly timer and no automation mode. Warranty is three years. The number in the name invites a wrong assumption, and the price list confirms it. The Wave 140 costs $7,499 — to the dollar the same as the Wave 120 — but reaches 127 feet instead of 138, and cleans the floor only, where the 120 also climbs walls and scrubs the waterline. What the extra digit buys is bulk and durability: 11 lb more machine, six brushes instead of four, a cartridge instead of a filter bag, three years of warranty instead of two. For a facility with tiled walls, the cheaper-sounding option is the better machine; for a large flat-bottomed pool that only needs debris lifted off the floor, the 140 is the one built to survive the shift. The product sheet also repeats the contradiction found across the whole Wave line: it gives a default cycle time of eight hours in the specification table while the comparison table on the same page lists four. The catalogue records both figures rather than choosing one, and the question has gone to the manufacturer.
