Dolphin Wave 300 XL
Maytronics · Israel · 2011
Maytronics' commercial flagship: a 26 kg floor cleaner for Olympic pools up to 50 m, at $15,499 and with no app at all.
The Wave 300 XL is the largest machine in Maytronics' commercial Dolphin line, built for institutional pools, Olympic facilities and water parks up to 165 feet - 50 metres - long. It has been in service at least since 2011, when a pair went to work at the University of Arizona; Maytronics does not publish a launch date for the model, so the catalogue records 2011 as the earliest documented deployment rather than a premiere. What makes it worth a profile is how differently it is engineered from the consumer robots that share the Dolphin badge. It weighs 58.4 lb (about 26.5 kg), runs on a 165-foot cable off a caddy rather than a battery, moves 10,560 gallons of water an hour through a top-loading filter bag, and drives six active brushes. Cycles are set on the machine itself at two, three or four hours - the product sheet also lists a six-hour default, a discrepancy the maker does not explain - and a handheld remote lets an operator steer it manually. The feature list is notable mostly for what it omits. There is no mobile app, no weekly timer, no automation mode. It does not scrub the waterline, and its cleaning coverage is the floor only. A $3,999 consumer machine from a Chinese rival will climb walls, skim the surface, dock itself and talk to a phone; this $15,499 robot will not do any of it. That is the point rather than an oversight. A commercial cleaner is judged on cable reach, filter volume, suction rate and how many seasons it survives being lifted in and out of a public pool by a maintenance crew. Maytronics backs it with a three-year warranty and ships the caddy in the box. The trade-off is legible in the range: the smaller Wave 200 XL costs $10,499, reaches 127 feet and swaps the filter bag for a multi-layer cartridge, while the same money buys several of the company's own residential robots with far longer feature lists and a fraction of the endurance.
