Doosan's largest cobot, built for one job only: stacking boxes on pallets. It carries 30 kg to a 2,030 mm radius and, uniquely in the maker's line-up, does it on five axes instead of six - the joint that a palletiser never needs was removed.
The P3020 is the heaviest and the longest-armed machine Doosan Robotics builds, and the only one in the Korean company's twelve-cobot line-up that is not a general-purpose arm. Doosan unveiled the P-SERIES at Automate 2024 in Chicago, announcing it on 7 May 2024 during a show that ran from the 6th to the 9th. The series exists for palletizing - sorting goods and stacking them onto pallets at the end of a production or logistics line. The headline figures are 30 kg of payload, a 2,030 mm working radius and 0.1 mm repeatability. The reach matters more than it sounds: Doosan states the robot can build a stack up to 2 m high without any auxiliary lift equipment, which is the difference between a cobot bolted to the floor and a cobot that needs a column or a scissor lift underneath it. The design decision that sets this machine apart is subtractive. Doosan's own product page says the arm has a five-axis structure optimised for palletizing, which eliminates singularities and reduces cycle time. Every other Doosan cobot has six axes. A palletiser almost always sets boxes down flat, so the wrist rotation that lets a general arm tilt its tool at any angle is dead weight - and worse, it is the joint whose alignments produce the singular positions where an arm loses control authority and has to slow down or stop. Removing it does not just save a motor; it removes a class of motion planning problem from the task. The company also claims roughly 25 percent lower power consumption than comparable machines, helped by a built-in gravity compensation mechanism that carries part of the arm's own weight mechanically rather than with current. On safety the P3020 holds a functional safety assessment from TUV SUD at PLe, Cat 4 - the highest rating on both scales - which is what allows a machine of this mass and reach to work near people at all. Doosan cites Wacker's Korean plant and Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands among its palletizing deployments, and claimed about a 72 percent share of the global market for collaborative robots of 20 kg payload and above in 2022. One pattern only becomes visible when the whole Doosan range is read at once: repeatability tracks arm length, not payload or series. Every 900 mm Doosan arm repeats to 0.03 mm whether it lifts 5 kg or 15 kg; the 1,200-1,300 mm models hold 0.05 mm; and the three long machines - this one, the H2515 and the H2017 - are all quoted at 0.1 mm. The P3020 is therefore the least precise robot Doosan sells, which for stacking cartons is irrelevant, and it is the only one where the specification sheet and the intended job agree about that. Doosan does not publish the arm's own mass, its per-axis speeds or a list price on the product page - the full catalogue sits behind a marketing consent form - so those fields are left empty here rather than filled from distributor listings.
