Epson's most precise six-axis arm: 602 mm of reach, 4 kg maximum payload and +/-0.01 mm repeatability, with a wrist that turns a full 540 degrees.
The CX4A is the small model in Epson's CX-A series, a six-axis line the company launched in Europe on 1 April 2026 as the high-end tier above its long-running C series. It occupies the same slot as the twelve-year-old C4 — one kilogram rated, four maximum, about 600 mm of reach — and exists to show what that slot looks like when it is designed again from scratch. The headline number is repeatability of +/-0.01 mm, twice as tight as the C4's +/-0.02 mm, and Epson states it was measured to ISO 9283 rather than quoted as a bare figure. Reach is 601.6 mm to the centre of the fifth joint and 674.1 mm to the tool flange. What changes the arm's practical behaviour more than the precision, though, is joint travel: the first axis swings +/-180 degrees against the C4's +/-170, the fourth +/-270 against +/-200, and the sixth a full +/-540 against +/-360. A wrist with a turn and a half in each direction lets the robot finish a screwdriving or cable-routing move without unwinding, which is where the manufacturer's claim of fewer unnecessary reorientations and lower collision risk comes from. The arm draws 1.8 kVA from a single-phase 200-240 V supply, weighs 30 to 32 kg depending on cabling variant and sealing, and allows 0.2 kg·m2 of inertia at the fourth and fifth joints. It runs on the RC800-A controller with Epson RC+ 8 and the Safe Robot Motion functions, and is TUV certified to ISO 10218-1, ISO 13849, UL 1740 and CSA Z434 — an industrial robot for a guarded cell, not a collaborative arm. Standard, ESD, ISO Class 3 cleanroom and IP67 protected builds are available across the series, which Epson sells in eighteen configurations with 4 kg and 7 kg payloads and arms from 600 to 900 mm; the larger members are the CX7A and the long-reach CX7LA.
