The long-reach folding arm: same tuck-over-the-base geometry as the N2, scaled to 6 kg and a metre of reach, with the shorter 850 mm version actually the more precise of the two.
The Flexion N6 takes the folding arm Epson launched with the N2 and scales it up to the size where the idea matters most. Where a conventional metre-class six-axis robot needs clearance behind the base for its elbow, the N6 keeps all three main joints at +/-180 degrees and folds back over itself, so a long-reach arm can work in a cell built to the size of the part rather than the size of the robot. Epson showed the machine at iREX on 27 November 2017 and opened Japanese orders on 30 May 2018 at 2,400,000 yen. Two arm lengths are catalogued, and they are less interchangeable than the names suggest. The 1000 mm version reaches 1010 mm to the wrist centre and 1110 mm to the mounting face, weighs 69 kg and repeats to +/-0.04 mm, mounting on a table or a ceiling. The 850 mm version is specified at 860 mm arm length - 860 mm to the fifth-axis centre, 960 mm to the flange - weighs 64 kg and holds a tighter +/-0.03 mm, but the catalogued model is a ceiling-mount unit and it is this length that Epson offers in a cleanroom version. Both carry 3 kg rated and 6 kg maximum, brake on all six axes and share the same wrist envelope: +/-200 degrees of roll, +/-125 of bend, +/-360 of twist, with allowable inertia of 0.42 kg m2 on J4 and J5 and 0.14 on J6. The N6 runs on an external RC700A controller drawing 2.2 kVA from a 200-240 V single-phase supply, and is programmed in Epson RC+ 7.0 with the usual options: Vision Guide, force sensing, conveyor tracking and the DeviceNet, EtherNet/IP, PROFIBUS and CC-Link fieldbuses. The shorter length was announced for the end of 2018 in Epson's American communication of 4 September 2018 without a separate order date of its own, which is why the line as a whole is dated 2018 here. Both lengths remain in the current catalogue.
