FANUC announced the CR-35iA on 29 June 2015 and put it on general release in North America later that year. It was the first force-limited collaborative robot to carry more than 10 kg, and at 35 kg it carried three and a half times what the market's best-known cobots managed at the time. Its green shell - a soft foam cover over the whole arm, chosen partly to distinguish it from FANUC's yellow industrial robots - became the visual signature of the entire CR line that followed. The specification explains both its appeal and its limits. It reaches 1,813 mm on six axes with repeatability of +/-0.03 mm, runs on the R-30iB Plus controller, and moves at 250 mm/s in collaborative mode - fast enough to be useful for lifting that a person should not do, slow enough that it never competed with a fenced arm on cycle time. It weighs 990 kg. That is twenty-eight kilograms of robot for every kilogram of payload, by far the heaviest ratio FANUC has ever published for a collaborative arm, and the reason the machine was always an installation rather than a portable tool. FANUC replaced it in 2022 with the CR-35iB, which carries more - 50 kg since the 2023 uprating - over a shorter 1,643 mm reach, and does it with 375 kg of robot. The successor is therefore not merely stronger but a different class of machine: less than 40 percent of the mass for a higher payload. The CR-35iA is no longer part of FANUC's collaborative range; its product page remains online with a support link rather than a quotation request, and the company has published no formal end-of-sale date. This catalogue keeps the profile because the machine defined a market segment that did not exist before it.
