The LBR iisy 15 R930 is the largest member of KUKA's cobot family and the first robot from the Augsburg company in this catalogue — a notable gap, since KUKA is one of the four firms that between them supply most of the world's industrial robots. KUKA announced the 11 kg and 15 kg models in June 2022 and made them available from the end of that year; they were the first KUKA robots to run the iiQKA operating system, now in its OS2 generation. The arm carries 15 kg over a 930 mm reach on six axes, and can be mounted on the floor, a wall, a ceiling or at an angle. Protection is IP54. Control is the KR C5 micro-2, the same platform KUKA uses for its small industrial robots rather than a cobot-only controller. The engineering choice that defines the machine is sensing. Every axis carries a joint torque sensor, so the robot measures external force directly instead of inferring contact from motor current. That is what makes hand guiding practical for teaching and what allows force-controlled assembly and joining, where the robot has to push to a specified force rather than to a specified position. KUKA's ARGUS safety system handles the monitoring, and fenceless operation is possible subject to a risk assessment. One detail is worth setting against the competition. Cleanroom capability in this class is usually sold as a derating of the standard arm: Universal Robots rates the UR15 for ISO 14644-1 Class 4 only at 80 percent of speed and payload, and ABB rates the PoWa 13 for Class 4 only at 50 percent of rated speed. KUKA instead builds separate cleanroom variants — the catalogue lists LBR iisy 11 R1300 CR and 15 R930 CR alongside the standard models — and rates the cleanroom version up to ISO Class 3, a cleaner class than either rival claims, without a published speed condition. Buying a different robot rather than slowing down the one you have is the more expensive answer and the more honest one. The standard arms are also ESD-compliant to IEC 61340-5-1. The family spans seven builds: 3 R760 (3 kg, 760 mm, IP30), 6 R1300, 8 R930, 11 R1300, 11 R1300 CR, 15 R930 and 15 R930 CR. Reach and payload trade against each other inside the range, so the 15 kg model is the shortest-armed of the larger machines and the 6 kg model reaches furthest. Programming is iiQKA.OS2 with templates and wizards, with offline simulation in iiQWorks.Sim. The arm also serves as the manipulator on KUKA's KMR iisy mobile platform. KUKA does not publish pose repeatability for this model on its product page; distributor listings quote 0.05 mm per ISO 9283, which this catalogue records as unverified at source.
