LBR iisy 8 R930

KUKA · Germany · 2023

The compact half of KUKA’s cobot range: 8 kg over 930 mm. Same arm as the 15 kg model, roughly half the payload — the family sells each reach in two strength classes.

The LBR iisy 8 R930 handles 8 kg over 930 mm on six axes. Like the 6 kg long-arm model it joined the range in 2023, a year after the family opened, and the two of them completed a deliberate grid: two arm lengths, each available in a light and a heavy payload class. That grid is the most useful thing to know about this robot. At 930 mm the buyer chooses between 8 kg and 15 kg; at 1300 mm between 6 kg and 11 kg. Both members of a pair run the same KR C5 micro-2 controller, the same iiQKA.OS2 software and the same IP54 protection, and they occupy the same footprint and the same working envelope. A cell can therefore be laid out first and the payload class decided afterwards, which is unusual: most cobot ranges tie payload to reach and force the two decisions together. Against its own long-arm sibling the 8 R930 trades 370 mm of reach for 2 kg of load, and gets a stiffer, more compact arm in return. It is the version that fits machine-tending work where the robot sits close to a chuck or a fixture and the limiting factor is clearance, not distance. The sensing and safety package is the family standard: a joint torque sensor in every axis, hand guiding for teaching, force-controlled assembly and joining, KUKA ARGUS monitoring with iiQKA.SafeOperation for safe workspace, position and speed limits, and fenceless operation possible after a risk assessment. The arm is ESD-compliant to IEC 61340-5-1 and can be floor, wall, ceiling or angle mounted. Pose repeatability, arm weight and per-axis speeds are not published by KUKA on the product page and are left marked as unpublished here rather than filled in from distributor listings.
