StockBot

StockBot is the oldest commercial idea at PAL Robotics and still its most widely deployed one: instead of staff walking the shop floor with hand-held RFID scanners, a 46 cm wide, 183 cm tall robot drives the aisles at night and reads every tagged item it passes. Two RAIN RFID readers and eight antennas capture tags up to four metres above the floor - high shelving and stockrooms included - and the robot records where each tag was found, so a garment on the wrong rail shows up as a position, not just a count. PAL puts the resulting inventory accuracy at around 99 per cent, roughly 1000 square metres covered per hour and up to 19 hours of scanning a day across charge cycles; the battery itself gives about ten hours of continuous work and recharges on the dock in five. Everything is driven from the same PAL web interface as the company's other robots: staff map the store once, schedule the scans and read the discrepancy reports afterwards, and the data goes into an ERP or warehouse management system through standard APIs. The robot has been running in Decathlon stores since 2019 - the retailer's deployment is documented as an IFR case study - and PAL now sells a separate warehouse configuration used by the Spanish fashion group Tendam. Its ancestry is academic: the platform grew out of the AdvanRobot RFID inventory robot project run with Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona.
