PAL Robotics' differential-drive autonomous mobile robot for indoor deliveries: 70 kg payload on a 54 cm footprint, ten hours of work and a choice of delivery case, conveyor or shelf on top.
TIAGo Base is the platform underneath most of what PAL Robotics does in logistics: a differential-drive autonomous mobile robot that carries up to 70 kg while weighing 47 kg itself, on a circular footprint 54 cm across and 30 cm high. It moves at up to 1 m/s, runs for around ten hours on a charge and returns to its dock on its own; two motorised wheels and four casters, an Intel i5 with a 256 GB SSD and a laser-based navigation stack do the rest. The robot needs no tape, track or beacon - it maps the building and plans its own route around people and moving obstacles, which is what separates it from the AGVs it usually replaces. What the customer actually buys is the superstructure: TIAGo Base Delivery adds a lockable case opened by password or NFC card, TIAGo Base Actuated Conveyor transfers loads automatically at adjustable height, and TIAGo Base Shelf adds trays plus an optional pair of depth cameras for obstacle avoidance. Fleets are managed from a web interface or straight from a customer's ERP through a REST API, with the fleet controller reassigning a task to another robot if one runs low on battery. An industry-certified version carries CE marking under the Machinery Directive and is built to EN ISO 13482 and ISO/TS 15066, the collaborative-robot standards. For research users the whole platform is open: simulation models and tutorials are published on the ROS wiki. The limits are those of any indoor AMR - a step of about 1 cm and a slope of roughly 6 per cent are as much as it will take.
