The sideways-moving member of the TIAGo family: four mecanum wheels, 100 kg payload and two LiDARs, built for narrow aisles where a turning circle is a luxury.
TIAGo OMNI Base is what PAL Robotics offers when a delivery robot has to work in aisles too narrow to turn around in. Four mecanum wheels let it drive in any direction, including sideways and diagonally, without changing the orientation of its load; two LiDAR sensors give it an unobstructed 360-degree view. The rectangular platform measures 500 x 720 x 310 mm, weighs 55 kg, carries 100 kg - half as much again as the round TIAGo Base - and reaches 1.5 m/s, with eight to ten hours of autonomy. It bridges gaps up to 150 mm and the manufacturer emphasises traction on uneven floors, a known weakness of mecanum wheels. Like the rest of the family it navigates without tracks or markers, is managed from a web interface or a customer's ERP, and takes accessories to order: an RGB-D camera add-on, a dock station, chargers, or a superstructure designed and built by PAL for a specific customer. The same base carries the two-armed TIAGo OMNI++ manipulator, launched in April 2024, which is how most research labs meet it. For a buyer the choice against the differential-drive TIAGo Base comes down to geometry rather than capability: more payload and free lateral movement, at the cost of a larger rectangular footprint and the mechanical complexity of mecanum drive.
