Techman TM16
Techman Robot · Taiwan · 2021
16 kg on a 900 mm arm — the same reach as the TM5-900, four times its payload, and half its precision. At Techman accuracy follows the platform, not the arm length.
The TM16 arrived in 2021 with the TM20 and fills the short-and-strong corner of Techman Robot's range: 16 kg of payload on a 900 mm arm weighing 32.2 kg. It is the densest machine the company sells, carrying four times what the similarly long TM5-900 manages while occupying the same footprint on the bench. That comparison is the reason this model is worth a careful look. Both arms reach roughly 900 mm, yet the TM5-900 is quoted at plus/minus 0.05 mm repeatability and the TM16 at plus/minus 0.1 mm. Reach is identical; precision is halved. Elsewhere in the industry accuracy tends to degrade with arm length, and at Universal Robots that pattern is almost a rule. Techman's numbers say something different: precision here is a property of the platform a model belongs to, not of how far it stretches. Every arm above the TM5 series carries the same plus/minus 0.1 mm, from the 900 mm TM16 to the 1300 mm TM20. A buyer who needs both load and tight placement cannot get it from this catalogue by choosing a shorter model. Motion sits between its siblings: the base joints turn at 120 degrees per second and joints 3 to 6 at 180, with an average tool speed of 1.1 metres per second. The elbow works through plus/minus 155 degrees, the same span as the TM5 rather than the wider sweep of the long arms. The rest is the house standard: a 5-megapixel colour camera factory-mounted in the wrist, TMflow flowchart programming with hand-guided teaching, IP54 protection on the arm, an ISO Class 3 cleanroom rating across the series, and compliance with ISO 10218-1:2011 and ISO/TS 15066:2016 with contact detection for fenceless work after a risk assessment. The DC-powered TM16X drops the camera; unlike most of the range, Omron lists SEMI S2 certification only for the AC version of this model. A note on sourcing: Techman's own pages publish no specification table and its catalogue prints the numbers as an image. The figures above are those documented by Omron, which resells these arms under its own brand.
