Techman TM5-700

The TM5-700 is the short-reach half of the model that launched Techman Robot in 2016 and still anchors its range. Where the TM5-900 stretches to 946 mm and carries 4 kg, this one works within about 700 mm and carries 6 kg — half again as much. Nothing changed in the drive train; the shorter arm simply gives the same motors better leverage. It is a useful corrective to the habit of reading a cobot's capability from the longest number on the datasheet. At 22.1 kg the arm is light enough to be moved between benches by two people, and it holds plus/minus 0.05 mm repeatability, the tightest figure in Techman's catalogue. Every heavier model the company sells — TM12, TM14, TM16, TM20 — is quoted at plus/minus 0.1 mm, so precision work stays with the TM5 family regardless of how short the bigger arms are made. The wrist is quick as well: joints 4, 5 and 6 turn at 225 degrees per second against 180 in the base, which suits screwdriving and inspection routines where the tool orientation changes more often than its position. As in every arm this company builds, a 5-megapixel colour camera is factory-fitted in the wrist and calibrated at the works, rather than bolted on later by an integrator — the single design decision that has defined the brand since its founding as a spin-out of Quanta Storage in 2015. Programming runs in TMflow, a flowchart environment where a task is assembled from function blocks and positions are taught by pulling the arm by hand. Protection is IP54, so dust and splashes but no wash-down, while the series carries an ISO Class 3 cleanroom rating and, in the DC-powered TM5X-700 variant, optional SEMI S2 certification for semiconductor plants. The arm complies with ISO 10218-1:2011 and ISO/TS 15066:2016, stops on contact detection and accepts configurable speed limits, so it can share a workspace with people once the cell has been risk-assessed. A note on sourcing: Techman publishes no specification table on its product pages and prints its catalogue figures as an image. The numbers above are those documented by Omron, which has resold the platform under its own brand since 2018; Omron rounds the reach of this series to 700 and 900 mm, while Techman's own figure for the long version is 946 mm.
