Techman TM6S

The TM6S is the long-reach model of Techman's S series, added to the line in 2025 together with the TM20S. It reaches 1800 mm, carries 6 kg and weighs 35 kg — a payload-to-reach ratio that looks poor next to the company's older arms until you see what the extra span is for. Palletising, large-part inspection and tending machines whose door sits far from the pallet are jobs where the workspace matters more than the weight of the part. What the S series changed is precision and sealing, and it changed both in the same generation. Repeatability is quoted at plus/minus 0.03 mm, which Techman presents as an improvement of up to 70 percent over the earlier line, and protection is IP65 rather than the IP54 of the TM5 through TM20 arms — sealed against jets of water, so the machine can be hosed down. That combination is unusual: in most catalogues the washdown-rated variant of an arm is the less accurate one, because seals add friction and mass to the joints. Techman also raised the speed of the sixth axis from 225 to 450 degrees per second and claims a 25 percent shorter cycle time as a result. Safety is where the S series is most clearly a newer design. Techman lists up to 31 TÜV-certified safety functions rated PL d, Cat 3 under ISO 13849-1 and compliant with the current edition of ISO 10218-1, with SGS certification for UL and CSA in North America and a Declaration of Incorporation for Europe as partly completed machinery. The practical consequence is stated plainly by the manufacturer: the arm needs no additional safety PLC, which removes a cabinet, a wiring loom and a chunk of the safety assessment from a typical cell. The vision system remains built in, as on every Techman arm, but on the S series it is explicitly an AI vision stack — classification, object detection, semantic segmentation and anomaly detection — trained through the TM AI+ Training Server rather than configured as hand-written rules. Programming runs in TMflow 2, which keeps the graphical node-based flow for first-time users but adds a Script Node and Script Project so an experienced engineer can compile code instead of dragging boxes, and TMcraft for building custom operator interfaces on top. Variants matter here. The S series ships in versions for semiconductor work, a food-grade build in hygienic materials, and a rugged build for harsh environments — so IP65 is the floor of the family, not its ceiling. The larger siblings TM20S, TM25S and TM30S extend the same platform to 20, 25 and 30 kg; the 25 kg model, oddly, reaches further than the 30 kg one at 1902 against 1702 mm.
