The fastest arm Universal Robots has built: 5 m/s at the tool, 15 kg of payload and 1,300 mm of reach on a base the size of a dinner plate. The Danish company invented the collaborative robot category in 2008; this is its 2025 answer to the size the market asks for most.
The UR15 was shown at Automate in Detroit in May 2025 and started shipping in June that year. It is the first Universal Robots arm in this catalogue — an overdue entry, because the Danish company from Odense effectively created the collaborative robot category with the UR5 in 2008 and remains the largest supplier of cobots in the world. The defining number is speed. The tool centre point moves at up to 5 m/s, which makes the UR15 the quickest arm the company has ever sold; the wrist joints turn at 300°/s and the elbow at 240°/s, all six joints with an unlimited ±360° working range. Payload is 15 kg, or 17.5 kg under boundary conditions set out in the manual — in practice wrist-down work such as palletising. Reach is 1,300 mm, the arm weighs 40.7 kg without cable, and it stands on a footprint of just 204 mm across, mountable in any orientation. Speed here is bought against precision, and the data sheet says so plainly: pose repeatability per ISO 9283 is ±0.05 mm. That is loose next to a comparable industrial arm — FANUC's 3 kg CRX-3iA is rated ±0.02 mm — and it is the honest trade of a machine built to move fast beside people rather than to hit a fixture. The safety and sensing package is what the price actually buys. The tool flange has a built-in force/torque sensor with a ±150 N and ±10 N·m range, so the robot feels contact rather than inferring it. Twenty-one configurable safety functions are certified to EN ISO 13849-1 PLd Category 3, EN ISO 10218-1 and UL 1740. The arm is sealed to IP65 and runs under 67 dB(A). Programming is the PolyScope interface on a 12-inch touchscreen, and the control box speaks Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET with PROFIsafe and ROS/ROS2. One clause deserves reading twice. Universal Robots rates the arm for ISO 14644-1 Class 4 cleanrooms, but the footnote ties that rating to velocity and payload held at or below 80 percent. The cleanroom class and the headline speed are not available at the same time. Power draw is 550 W at maximum and 350 W under moderate settings; the ambient range is 0–50°C.
