Universal Robots unveiled the UR8 Long on 8 September 2025 at FABTECH in Chicago, opened orders immediately and began shipping in October 2025. Its headline number is borrowed: 1,750 mm of reach, exactly what the UR20 offers and 450 mm more than the UR10e, UR15 and UR30. What is new is the price paid for that reach. The UR20 pairs 1,750 mm with 25 kg of payload and a 64 kg arm. The UR8 Long pairs the same 1,750 mm with 8 kg of payload and 44.7 kg of arm without cable. Until now, buying reach from this manufacturer meant buying lifting capacity with it, and carrying the mass and the mounting requirements that follow. The UR8 Long separates the two, which is why the company positions it for welding, inspection and pick-and-place in space-constrained cells rather than for palletising. The payload line carries a condition worth reading. The data sheet states 8 kg, then adds 10 kg with boundary conditions according to the manual. The higher figure is not a general rating, and a specifier should treat 8 kg as the number that holds across the working envelope. It is also the fastest arm the company publishes, at 5 m/s maximum tool centre point speed, matching the UR20. Base and shoulder run at 180 degrees per second, the elbow at 240 and the three wrist joints at 300, on the same 2-1-3 joint architecture as the UR18. Pose repeatability is +/-0.08 mm per ISO 9283 - worse than the +/-0.05 mm of the mid-size arms, better than the +/-0.1 mm of the UR20. In this family, accuracy still tracks arm length more closely than it tracks generation. The arm is sealed to IP65, has a light ring at the base for status, draws 615 W at maximum and around 350 W under moderate settings, stays below 67 dB(A) and works from 0 to 50 degrees Celsius at up to 90 percent non-condensing humidity. The force-torque sensor at the flange covers +/-150 N and +/-10 Nm with an accuracy of +/-8.3 N. Twenty-one configurable safety functions are certified to EN ISO 13849-1 PLd Category 3, EN ISO 10218-1 and UL 1740. Footprint is 204 mm across, the same as the UR18. Universal Robots, founded in Odense and owned by Teradyne, sells through integrators and publishes no list price.
