Motoman NEXT NEX10
Yaskawa Electric · Japan · 2023
Six-axis Yaskawa arm from the Motoman NEXT line: 10 kg payload and 0.015 mm repeatability, with an NVIDIA Jetson Orin control unit bolted onto the robot controller so the arm can judge a situation instead of replaying a path.
The NEX10 is the middle size of Motoman NEXT, the series Yaskawa announced in November 2023 as the first industrial robot line built around autonomous adaptivity — the machine recognises what is in front of it, decides, plans a motion and then checks whether the task actually succeeded. Sales of the first five sizes (4, 7, 10, 20 and 35 kg) began in December 2023; North America got the platform in September 2024, where two collaborative models were added to the lineup. Mechanically it is a conventional-looking six-axis arm with unconventional numbers: 10 kg payload, 1,101 mm horizontal and 2,027 mm vertical reach, 58 kg of its own mass, 1 kVA of power and an IP67 rating over the whole body, which is unusual for an assembly-class robot. Repeatability is quoted at 0.015 mm. Yaskawa is explicit about why it built the arm this way: high-inertia Sigma-X servomotors developed in-house are meant to shrink the gap between where the controller says the tool is and where it really is — the gap that makes a digital twin useless in practice. The part that makes it a NEXT rather than another Motoman sits next to the robot controller. The compact YNX1000 drives the axes; an Autonomous Control Unit running on an NVIDIA Jetson Orin module under Wind River Linux does perception and decision-making, with NVIDIA Isaac libraries and models available on it. The development environment is deliberately open, so an integrator's own vision or grasping code runs on the robot instead of on a separate industrial PC. Programming is task- and skill-based from a 10.1-inch tablet-style pendant, and the arm keeps its home position without a backup battery, with one cable carrying power and control. One detail worth knowing before shopping: the smallest size of the original announcement, the 4 kg NEX4, has no product page in Yaskawa's North American catalogue — checked on 6 September 2026, the listing offers NEX7, NEX10, NEX20 and NEX35 only.
