The smallest arm Yaskawa actually sells from the Motoman NEXT line: 7 kg payload, 927 mm reach and 0.01 mm repeatability — the most precise and the fastest-wristed member of the family, with the same NVIDIA Jetson Orin decision unit as its larger siblings.
The NEX7 is the entry size of Motoman NEXT as the series is actually offered. Yaskawa announced five industrial sizes in November 2023 — 4, 7, 10, 20 and 35 kg — but the 4 kg NEX4 has no product page in the North American catalogue, so the smallest arm a buyer can configure is this one. It is a six-axis articulated arm of conventional shape and unusually tight numbers: 7 kg maximum payload, 927 mm horizontal and 1,693 mm vertical reach, 48 kg of its own mass, 1 kVA of supply and IP67 sealing over the whole body. Repeatability is quoted at 0.01 mm, the best figure in the series — the NEX10 is rated 0.015 mm, the NEX20 0.02 mm and the NEX35 0.04 mm. Its wrist is also the quickest: the tool flange turns at 1,000°/s, against 900°/s on the NEX20 and 400°/s on the NEX35. Allowable wrist moments are 17 N·m on the roll and bend axes and 10 N·m on the flange, with 0.5 and 0.2 kg·m² of allowable inertia. Mounting is free — floor, wall, tilt or ceiling. What makes it a NEXT rather than another small Motoman is the second box next to the controller. The compact YNX1000 drives the axes, while an Autonomous Control Unit on an NVIDIA Jetson Orin module under Wind River Linux handles perception and decision-making, with NVIDIA Isaac accelerated libraries and models available on it. Yaskawa markets the arm for high-mix sortation, flexible packaging, adaptive machine tending and precision laboratory handling — work where the part is not always where the program expects it.
