Dyson announced two robot vacuums in London on 3 September 2026 - the R1 Nurovi Dry and the mopping R2 Nurovi Wash+Dry - and the launch material contains no suction rating for either machine. That absence is deliberate. Every rival in the category leads with a pascal figure, and figures for this range are already circulating in secondary coverage, but the company's own announcement argues the opposite case: that pick-up is a property of the whole system, and that the cleaner head matters as much as the motor behind it.
The argument has hardware behind it. Dyson's new Twin-capture system splits a job the category normally hands to suction alone. Bristles on the brush bar mechanically sweep larger, heavier debris straight into the machine, which is exactly the debris that suction handles worst; the vacuum motor is then left to do what suction does well, pulling fine dust out of the floor surface. Redesigned side sweepers extend outward to reach the wall and use an angled, webbed connector to control brush pressure and direction, so hair is guided into the airflow instead of being flicked across the room or wrapped around the bristles. Acoustic piezo sensing and floor detection read dust level and surface type as the robot works and change its behaviour on the fly.
The mopping model carries the range's most unusual idea. Instead of the round pads used almost everywhere else, the R2 spins a pair of Reuleaux triangle pads - a curved shape of constant width that rolls as smoothly as a circle, but whose three corner points reach into corners that a circle cannot touch. Dyson drives them in an eccentric pattern so the pads work the wall line rather than stopping short of it. The dock washes those pads in 75 C water after every clean and dries them with 45 C air; for both robots it is a bagless cyclonic unit with eight cyclones that empties the machine after each run and holds up to 90 days of dry waste in a sealed system.
What Dyson has not published is almost as notable as what it has. There are no dimensions, no weight, no battery capacity, no runtime and no price in the announcement, and no shipping date for the R1 beyond launching soon. The catalogue profiles for both machines therefore carry the engineering and leave the number fields empty, including suction. They will be filled when Dyson publishes a specification sheet, and not from third-party estimates in the meantime.
