SwitchBot's cheapest robot is the only one that speaks Matter without a hub

In the usual order of things a smart-home standard arrives at the top of a manufacturer's range and trickles down over a few years. SwitchBot's cleaning robots did it the other way round. The K11+, the company's best-selling household robot at 399.99 US dollars, supports Matter natively: Apple Home, Alexa and Google Home control it without buying anything else. The K10+ Pro Combo, sold at 799.99 dollars — twice the money — still needs a SwitchBot Hub 2 as a separate purchase before Apple Home sees it at all. The Combo reached the shop in September 2024, the K11+ in July 2025. The gap is not a mistake, it is a consequence of how the standard spreads. Matter has to be built into the radio and firmware of a specific device; it cannot be granted retroactively to hardware designed before the decision. So the newest machine in the range gets it, and the older, more expensive one does not — which inverts the price signal a buyer normally trusts. The same inversion shows up across the catalogue: what the flagship of 2023 charged 1,199.99 dollars for, the S20 of 2025 now does for 799.99. Three years of this family's history read as a straight line downwards in price, with the newest capabilities landing first on the machines at the bottom. For a buyer the practical rule is narrow but useful. If the point of the purchase is control from Apple Home or Google Home without another box on the shelf, the model year matters more than the price tier — and in this range the cheap robot is the modern one.
