Epson sells its folding arm in two lengths. The shorter one is the more precise, and it is the only one you can order for a cleanroom

Two catalogue entries, one model name: Epson lists the Flexion N6 as an 850 mm and a 1000 mm arm, and the naming suggests the usual trade - more reach for a little less accuracy. The company's own specification pages say something more specific than that. The 1000 mm version repeats to +/-0.04 mm and weighs 69 kg. The 850 mm version repeats to +/-0.03 mm and weighs 64 kg. That is a third less positional error, not a rounding difference, and it is the sort of gap that decides whether an arm can be used for fine assembly at all. The differences do not stop at precision. The catalogued 1000 mm item is offered for tabletop and ceiling mounting; the catalogued 850 mm item is a ceiling-mount unit, and 850 mm is the only length Epson lists in a cleanroom version. Buyers who pick a length by reach alone can therefore end up with a different mounting envelope and a different set of production environments than they expected. The nominal lengths are also rounded down. Epson's own tables give the 850 mm arm a length of 860 mm - 860 mm to the fifth-axis centre and 960 mm to the flange - and the 1000 mm arm 1010 mm to the wrist centre and 1110 mm to the mounting face. Everything else the two share: 3 kg rated and 6 kg maximum payload, brakes on all six axes, an external RC700A controller drawing 2.2 kVA, and the folding geometry that gives the first three joints a full +/-180 degrees each so the elbow tucks back over the base instead of swinging out behind the robot. That geometry is the reason the line exists. Epson introduced it in 2016 with the smaller N2 - a 450 mm arm that repeats to +/-0.020 mm, the tightest figure in the company's six-axis range - and scaled it up to the N6, shown at iREX in November 2017 and on sale in Japan from 30 May 2018 at 2,400,000 yen.
