Business7/15/2026 · Walden Robotics (press release) / The Robot Report A robotics start-up worth 1.1 billion dollars on day one — Walden leaves stealth already working in a Toyota plant
Walden Robotics came out of stealth on 15 July 2026 with 300 million dollars of seed funding and a 1.1 billion dollar valuation — a company founded the same year, priced as a unicorn before it had a public product.
The round was co-led by Toyota and Deviation Capital, with NVIDIA, Boeing, Samsung Ventures, Prologis Ventures, AE Ventures and CoreWeave Ventures joining. The Cambridge, Massachusetts team comes largely from the Toyota Research Institute, MIT, Stanford and Amazon, and brings with it the research line behind Diffusion Policy and Large Behavior Models — the model class the company says lets its robots pick up new tasks and keep improving through practice on the job.
The detail that separates this from the usual launch announcement is that the robots are already working: Walden says its machines have been doing production work at a Toyota plant in North America since February 2026, going from first pilot to real tasks in under two months. The investor list reads like a customer list — a car maker, an aerospace manufacturer, a warehouse landlord and a compute provider — which is the point.
What the company has not published is equally telling: no robot model name, no specifications, no unit count and no price. Until those exist, the claim to be putting general-purpose robots to work "today" rests on a single named deployment at the investor who co-led the round.
