Astribot S1

Astribot S1 is the first robot from Astribot, a Shenzhen company founded in December 2022. It is humanoid from the waist up and deliberately not humanoid below it: two seven-degree-of-freedom arms on a 170 cm torso with a 194 cm span, mounted on a base rather than legs. The maker's card gives 80 kg of weight, 5 kg of payload per arm at horizontal reach and four to six hours of endurance with a hot-swappable battery. The numbers that matter are at the hand. Astribot publishes an end-effector velocity of at least 10 m/s and acceleration around 100 m/s squared, with positioning repeatability of plus/minus 0.1 mm. That combination - roughly human arm speed at industrial-arm precision - is the whole argument for the design, and it is the reason the machine is usually demonstrated ironing, pouring and handling loose objects rather than walking. The company frames its approach as Design for AI: hardware built around the learning system rather than the other way round. The unit on sale is described by Astribot as a research version, with some parameters unlockable for higher performance, so this is a laboratory and pilot machine and not a product with a public price. Buyers are research groups, which puts S1 in the same bracket as the academic platforms rather than the factory humanoids.
