BYD Xiaodi

Xiaodi is the first humanoid robot built by BYD, the world's largest maker of electric vehicles. BYD confirmed it on 28 July 2026 and showed it in early August at the Di Space brand experience centre in Zhengzhou. It is not sold: the robot works the showroom floor, greeting visitors, walking them through car models, answering basic questions and demonstrating in-car systems. Executive vice-president Stella Li has said the plan is two or three units per store, with wider commercial deployment hoped for within one to two years. The published figures describe a 1.61 m, 58.5 kg machine with 31 degrees of freedom in total — seven in each hand, six in each leg, three at the waist and two in the neck. The hands are quoted as lifting 1 kg with ±1 mm positioning accuracy; the head carries 360-degree vision with dynamic modelling, face, lip and gesture recognition. The interaction layer is the point of the robot: real-time two-way translation across six Chinese dialects and six foreign languages. Read the machine for what it is. This is a receptionist, not a worker — a humanoid whose job is to make a car showroom feel like the future, at a moment when BYD's domestic sales growth has slowed. There is no published figure for battery, runtime, walking speed or price, and no third party has yet tested any of the claims. Editorial note: BYD has not put a datasheet online. The specifications above come from Chinese financial and trade press reporting BYD's own July confirmation, and are internally consistent — the quoted joint counts add up exactly to 31.
