E0509

Doosan Robotics · South Korea · 2023

A collaborative arm built for kitchens and food plants: NSF-certified and rated IP66, so it can be washed down without a protective jacket. The price of that sealing is precision - it repeats to 0.05 mm where its identical-payload sibling manages 0.03 mm.

The E0509 is the first Doosan Robotics machine in this catalogue and the whole of the Korean company's E-SERIES, the line it built for the food and beverage industry. Doosan announced the series on 17 April 2023 as part of a launch of thirteen new cobots across four families, and began shipping in June of that year. The arm carries 5 kg over a 900 mm reach and repeats to 0.05 mm. What separates it from an ordinary cobot is not the mechanics but the housing: the gaps between the connecting axes are sealed, the robot holds NSF certification for food hygiene and is rated IP66. Doosan's own selling point is what that combination removes - hygiene control without other equipment, such as robot jackets. A standard industrial arm working near food is normally wrapped in a washable cover, which adds cost, hides the joints and gets in the way of cleaning; the E0509 is meant to be hosed down as it stands. Read against the rest of the maker's own line-up, the machine reveals an honest trade-off that the marketing does not spell out. Doosan sells two answers to the same problem. The A-SERIES contains dedicated food-and-beverage variants - A0509F and A0912F - which carry the same NSF badge, and the A0509F has exactly the same 5 kg payload and 900 mm reach as this robot. But the A0509F repeats to 0.03 mm and the E0509 to 0.05 mm. The sealed machine is the less precise one, by two hundredths of a millimetre, and that difference is the cost of closing the joints. Buyers who need the wash-down rating give up accuracy; buyers who only need the hygiene certificate keep it. Doosan publishes no IP figure on the A0509F product page, which is the other half of the same story. The applications Doosan itself lists are consumer-facing rather than industrial: loading a fryer and cooking chicken at 170 degrees for a set time, pouring hand-drip coffee at three cups in fifteen seconds, cooking noodles at constant quality. The company's reference deployments include fried-chicken and coffee chains in Korea. Beyond food, the product page also points the robot at medical environments, inspection work and gluing and bonding, where the same sealing helps. Programming is done through Doosan's Dart-Suite platform. The manufacturer does not publish the arm's own mass, its per-axis speeds or a list price on the product page, so this catalogue leaves those fields empty rather than copy figures from distributor listings. Specifications here follow Doosan Robotics' own product pages and its April 2023 launch release.
