The precise half of OpenAI's GPT Image 2.5 pair: same token rates as its fast twin, chosen when editing accuracy matters more than speed.
GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst was released on 8 September 2026 together with GPT Image 2.5 Flare. Both generate and edit images from text and image inputs, both are available in the Image API and as the model behind the Responses API image generation tool, and both are billed at exactly the same rates. OpenAI separates them by behaviour rather than by price. Sunburst is described as the most capable model for image generation and editing, rated highest on performance and medium on speed, and is recommended for workflows where editing precision matters most. Flare is the very fast one for everyday work. The 2.5 pair adds two new quality settings, xhigh and max, on top of low, medium, high and auto. Token rates match GPT Image 2 - $5 per million text input tokens, $8 per million image input tokens and $30 per million image output tokens - but OpenAI warns that the GPT Image 2 calculator does not estimate 2.5 token consumption, so the same rates do not mean the same bill.
