Midjourney V8.2

Midjourney V8.2, announced on the company's official updates page on 24 July 2026, is the current release of the V8 image line. The announcement is short and deliberately unquantified: the update focuses on aesthetics, image quality and personalisation. Images are described as more creative, bold, sophisticated, edgy and fresh; the random cases where a generation came out low quality should be dramatically reduced; personalisation is said to understand a user's taste much better, especially on profiles with a large number of ratings; and building a new personalisation profile for V8.2 now draws on a much larger and improved pool of images. Midjourney explicitly encourages testing both new and old personalisation profiles against the release. The V8 line arrived over four months, all of it documented on the same updates page. V8 Alpha opened on 17 March 2026, at first only on alpha.midjourney.com: roughly five times faster than V7, native 2K rendering through --hd, better text rendering when the text is quoted in the prompt, and backward compatibility with V7 personalisation profiles, moodboards and style references — though --hd, --q 4, sref and moodboard jobs initially ran four times slower and cost four times a regular job, and Relax mode was missing at launch (it followed on 21 March). V8.1 Alpha on 14 April walked the look back toward V7 while keeping the stability, restored image prompts and image weights, updated Describe and added a prompt shortener, and cut prices: HD became three times faster and three times cheaper and was promoted to default, standard resolution 50% faster and 25% cheaper. V8.1 became the service-wide default on 11 June, at which point Midjourney quoted four seconds for an SD image and twelve for HD, with HD rendering at twice the size and four times the resolution of V7 — and announced that V8.0 would be retired two weeks later. Draft mode reached V8.1 on 16 June: 24 low-resolution images per generation for half the fast hours of a standard V8.1 SD job, with a --preview flag for testing unfinished models. What Midjourney does not publish is as notable as what it does. There is no parameter count, no architecture description, no training-data disclosure and no benchmark suite for any V8 release — the company competes on aesthetic judgement and does not report scores. The speed and price figures above come from the V8 and V8.1 announcements; Midjourney did not restate them for V8.2, so they should be read as properties of the line rather than measured claims about this release. Omni-Reference, V7's signature subject-carrying feature, was still tied to V7 as of the June default switch while an improved V8 version was being trained. Access remains subscription-only through the web app and Discord, with moderation applied at generation time. The older V7 profile stays in this catalogue unchanged.
