Grok Imagine Image

Grok Imagine Image is the base image model of xAI's Imagine family and the model the company's revamped image generation launched with on 28 January 2026, alongside the first Grok video model. It takes a text prompt, an image, or both, and returns a single generated or edited picture; multi-image editing and image-to-video run through the same Imagine API. Its pricing is what keeps it in the catalogue after two newer siblings arrived. A generated picture costs $0.02 whether the caller asks for 1024x1024 or 2048x2048 - the resolution simply does not change the bill. On the newer Grok Imagine Image 2.0 the same request starts at $0.04 for a low-quality 1K image and reaches $0.08 for a medium-quality 2K one, so a large picture from the newer model costs four times what the base model charges for the same pixel count. Feeding a picture in is also five times cheaper here: $0.002 against $0.01 per input image. The served weights are refreshed without a version bump: the public alias resolves to the dated snapshot grok-imagine-image-2026-03-02, five weeks younger than the model's debut. xAI publishes no benchmark table for the model and does not release its weights. The model runs in the us-east-1 region, is accepted by the discounted Batch API in us-east-1 and us-west-2, and is rate-limited to six requests per second per customer. It carries no quality or style switch - callers who want one have to move to the paid tiers above it.
